Bethany Boogerd
Miss Tall St. Louis 2004

Bethany, a 6’1” brown-eyed brunette, is somewhat of a newcomer to our tall family. However, she appears to have “hit the ground running.” Bethany has made it a point to attend every possible event that her job allows her to attend in order to get to know the friendly people that make up the St. Louis Tip Toppers.

She says that she appreciates the wide variety and location of events that we feature on our events calendar, and will always make an appearance at a home party or a happy hour. She accompanied the pod of tallsters who joined our friends from the Central Missouri Tall Club for Oktoberfest in Hermann and got an even better idea of the global appeal of belonging to our international organization from that excursion.

She lists reading, music, traveling and dancing among her hobbies and interests and, indeed, was an enthusiastic participant in the swing dance lessons last year. Bethany does admit to preferring a more free-form method of dance expression, however, but enjoyed the experience of further exploring tall friendships that this event allowed.

Bethany enjoys the lively pacing of life in St. Louis, and moved back here from Omaha at her earliest opportunity after she moved away briefly with her parents. She’d like to obtain her license in social work and eventually move into a therapy position. The fields of gerontology, eating disorders and working with kids all appeal to her. In addition, she’s seeking a church home in order to become more involved with the United Church of Christ in St. Louis

Bethany is currently employed at the Evangelical Children’s Home as a Care Manager with the male residents there. This is how she heard about our club. If you attended the annual Tip Toppers’ holiday party for Evangelical Children’s Home this past December you may have spied Bethany allowing her tall friends to do their thing - she was actually on call at the Children’s Home that night and was delighted with the giving spirit of her new tallster family.

Bethany obtained her BSW from Central Missouri State University with honors and completed her Master of Social Work at the University of Missouri-Kansas City. She served as Secretary for the Phi Alpha social work honor society and looks forward to using that experience in serving as an officer for the Tip Toppers in the near future as she continues to familiarize herself with the workings of our organization.

Bethany feels that being “vertically blessed” (her words) brings her a definite advantage in maintaining order in her chosen social work field.

As Miss Tall St. Louis, Bethany plans to work with our officers and members to increase awareness of the club in St. Louis in order to expand the number of members.
