If
you are clicking around at this site, you maybe asking yourself, "why
should I consider spending my time with a tall club?" You may be looking
at the pictures of all of us and wondering, "Can I have fun with those
people?"
When I was first approached about joining the Redwood Empire Tall Club, I
told the friend who asked me, "I think I need more in common with people
than the fact that we are tall." And I tried to look down my nose, but he
was too tall!
So why would someone want to spend time with and eventually join a tall
club?
Many think of a tall club as an ideal place to meet another tall woman or
man with whom to have a relationship and eventually possibly marry. All
human beings crave being in a relationship where they are accepted, cared
for and about, and where they can be caring. So if this is you, at least
you know you are normal! Many look at our club as a place to meet that
special someone, and many do. We have several couples in our club that
met here and have eventually married. RETC is NOT a dating club though-
it is so much more!
One of the things I have found as a single person, who wasn't in a
relationship, is a group of people to go places with that are fun and
safe. There are men and women who go to dinner, the theater, go for a
hike, ride bicycles, go wine tasting, or have a picnic. I have had the
chance to do things and go places I wouldn't go to alone or if I did,
wouldn't have enjoyed as much by myself. The best part? I could talk to
everyone, eye to eye! As a tall woman, I have spent more than my share of
time bent over so I could hear the conversation going on below my
shoulders! Another good thing about our group goings and comings is I
could commiserate with my fellow tall women about shoes, pants, shirts,
dresses, coats- you name it- that isn't quite right because I couldn't
find the right thing in size 12 narrow shoes or size __ (I'm not telling!)
pants, shirt, dress, whatever. I have gotten great tips on where to find
clothes that fit!
There are other networking advantages. I can ask my fellow talls which
cars they have found fit and which don't- I don't have to do all the
research myself. I can also ask them which computer to buy and one of
them even helped me order it and get it set up!
And I guess that's the number one reason to consider the tall club. It's
a great place to make life long friends with some truly great and caring
people!
I also think you get out of an organization what you put into it. If you
are looking for a place to take something away and not give something of
yourself, you will probably be disappointed in the tall club- or any
club. If you are looking to make some new friends and share the wonderful
person you are with others, you will probably find the tall club a great
place. And who knows- you may even find a special someone. And if you
don't, you will have a passel of new friends to do things with until you
do!
Give us a try. Try coming to every event for a month. After all, you
can always go back to being alone, or trying to hear the conversation
going on down there somewhere!
